2011 MARKS 15 YEARS OF GIVING!
As the holiday season begins, it is with great joy that we can take note that 2011 marks the 15th year of this great community mission. Over the past 15 years, Operation Toy Drop, has made a real difference for our neighbors who struggle. Serving as many as 55 children in the Chesterfield, West Chesterfield and Spofford community, we find it exciting to know that through our efforts we can help make a child’s Christmas special.
As we begin our planning for this holiday season, one reality has become evident; the need continues to grow. With the economy struggling to remain steady, many families in our community have taken a direct hit, and are finding it difficult to make ends meet. If any of our other economic ministries are an indication, we expect the need for help to be at its greatest level in 2011.
Although this is a mission coordinated by Asbury Church of Chesterfield, this is truly a community endeavor. We cannot even begin to address the needs of our local children without the help of concerned citizens, business leaders, and civic organizations. We rely on these individuals in many ways, including; donation of toys, monetary contributions, providing toy collection sites and promotion of this mission.
Our mission is not to fill every need, but rather to help fill the gaps. The Christmas season is often a challenge for those who are financially secure. For those who struggle pay check to pay check, it is often enough to push them over the edge. In the light of one’s regular day to day expenses, it is frequently the children who pay the price. Operation Toy Drop helps local families take some of the edge off by providing assistance with gifts, warm clothing, and oftentimes a Christmas meal.
Our goal for 2011 is to reach even more children, and we ask for your continued support through this community program. For those who give, this program truly embodies the spirit of Christmas. That small item that is placed in a collection box, or the donation made to Operation Toy Drop, reminds a child that they are not forgotten – and more importantly – that Christmas has not passed them by.
